UBC residence assignments pep chat.

Clearly room assignments have been released, because the Class of 2017 Facebook group blew up. I’m watching yous. 😉 And of course the questions arise – “Can we switch rooms?” “What’s Totem like?” “What’s Vanier like?” “What’re the new Totem houses like?” “Which residence is better?” “What are the pros and cons?” ETC ETC. It’s awesome that you are all so eager and anxious to find out what your rooms and residences are like, but the main thing is, everyone’s residence experience is DIFFERENT!!! It’s what YOU make of it! You might hear other older students saying that _____ was so awesome and it’s the place to live…but that’s based on THEIR experience, just because you didn’t get assigned there doesn’t mean that your experience is going to suck. But in saying that, you ARE able to switch out if you’re not content with your current assignment(not that you really have that great of an idea as to what it’s like to live in your given assignments :S). Keep in mind that when you have found someone to switch with, make sure they’re the same gender as you, and then email UBC regarding the switch, because they do actually need to know. All of the vanier houses have shared bathrooms on each floor, as do totem houses except for the two new houses which have connecting shared bathrooms between two units or private bathrooms. Feel free to leave questions below and be sure to check out my other posts regarding UBC residences, but keep in mind that those are all purely MY opinions. #alwaysreppinvanier

RandomRamblings: Yay for the Holidays + Random Astro Fact of the Day

I’m a little late but Happy/Merry Christmahanukwanzadan – Ramadan, Hanukkah, and Christmas are all over…and I think it’s Kwanzaa right now..? Regardless, I hope everyone had/is having a great holiday season! I finally got that white Christmas that I had been dreaming of… SO HAPPY!
I would say this holiday season has been rather successful, super stuffed from all the food, in the process of catching up with all the shows that I’ve been deprived of for the past 4 months, all caught up on my sleep(this one’s super important), spending quality time with the famjam, spent way too much money, and of course, all my laundry is done. 😀

Classes start in 5 days… #whysosoonUBC
I would love to put on a fit about how early we’re going back…but I’m too mature for that(or at least I’d like to think I am). 😛 There is currently a giant wasp in my room, flying into the window, ‘cuz wasps are sooo smart. -.- I hate wasps. Overall, this break has been super awesome with a fair amount of snow and wintery feels. I feel like I could go on about how I can’t believe that 2012 is almost over, and how second term is almost starting and yaddy yaddy yada, but I won’t.
Random fact of the day: A newly discovered comet is headed our way and it may be 15 times brighter than the moon. whoa whoa whoa. It’s currently located somewhere near the orbit of Jupiter and once it gets to Mars it will start to shine and a bunch of the gases will become expelled and that will result in a streaky appearance. Be excited.

Let the chaos commence!

What’s all that white fluffy cold stuff on the ground? OH RIGHT. That’s called snow. A rather rare form of precipitation in this part of Canada. What does that entail? UBC shutting down in its entirety. That’s right, 12pm, 3:30pm, and 7:00pm exams all got canceled  and are now rescheduled for January 6th – if you need more information, I’m sure you’ve probably figured out details if it regards you. Then the new Port Mann bridge got closed due to “ice bombs” falling from the billion dollar bridge and smashing windshields and causing injuries. The design on that one was thought through rather well, but to be fair, snow is rare around here, so I can see why they didn’t think that one through thoroughly enough. I’m not sure if I feel sorry for the people that had their exams canceled, or if I just feel bad for them….would I want to be studying over my Christmas break…? I dunno, that’s a tough one, well not really, since my answer is no. Then again, if you had all that time, it should guarantee you a good mark for when you write it in January – I suppose it all depends on what course it is, but  I’d rather get it over with than have to fret about it over break when I could be doing NOTHING. But I do feel bad for people that are trying to fly back home for the holidays – flight delays are NEVER fun, but now it’s like a Christmas movie, right? No? Maybe? It’s been snowing straight for 12 hours now…that’s pretty great, and this is probably the closest that we will get to having a White Christmas (sorry to be a downer, but I just speak the truth). Also, they started releasing marks on the SSC as of last night….sooo read it and weep, or drink or whatever the hell you wanna do after you read it. Congratulations if you’re really happy with them and don’t be too harsh on yourself if you come across some disappointments. We all learn from our mistakes and we have to learn to accept the way things happen and move on(easier said than done, but I mean it).

First term, second year – CHECK PLEASE.

It’s been too long! I did NOT think I would be able to go for so long without blogging, but apparently I can. Who knew? But alas, I am back. I had my last exam of the term today and it went pretty okay for the most part in my opinion. It was rather long, but it was doable(I think – watch me be completely wrong). The past few weeks have been pretty hectic/stressful for me(mainly why I’ve been lagging with the whole blogging thing), both on an academic and emotional level, I suppose mainly emotional, which was reflected on my academics, but it’s all good now. We all have those emotionally low moments in our lives, but we just have to pick ourselves up and glue back the pieces. This Christmas break was muchly needed and now I just get to relax and do nothing all day, erryday. I also need to catch up on sleep. Campus wide power outage at UBC last night/early morning – why was I even awake?! I randomly woke up in the middle of the night and saw my phone light up with a text message and my friend said that there was a campus wide power outage, I was very confused, then I looked at my clock and saw that it was off and then I realized she was serious. I then texted my mom at 4 in the morning and told her to call me in the morning since my alarm wasn’t working due to the outage..and what do you know, she texts me literally 5 minutes later in the weeeeee hours of the morning. That’s a faster response than when I text her during the daytime! It also apparently snowed in the middle of the night….but I only saw an accumulation of white fluffy stuff on one side of campus, which was on the way to my final exam.
Normal people:
Power outage = darkness = sleepy bye time.
Me:
Power outage = darkness = wide awake and alert and ready to grab a machete and fight all the zombies lurking around campus + texting my friends that are awake and freaking out with them.
I genuinely felt bad for the people with morning exams, mine was only at 12 so it wasn’t terrible. Although, I must say, brushing my teeth with my phone flashlight was just annoying. My unit felt like a cold, dark cave.
Lo and behold, I am home for the holidays and all I want to do is relax, relax, relax, and I shall see UBC in 2013.

One of Those Dumb Days

I woke up at a ridiculously early time this morning. And went to bed late. Total amount of sleep in the last two nights: 9.5-10.5 hours..aka..not enough – exams haven’t even STARTED! 😥 I can barely keep my eyes open right now…I’ve reached a point that goes beyond sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation leads to me doing dumb things.
#1 – I woke up, rolled over, and fell off of my bed. That definitely woke me up. Great start to the morning, really.
#2 – Completely zoned out in both my classes today. I literally have no idea what happened, it probably wouldn’t have made a difference if I hadn’t shown up for class.
#3- Tried to troll someone via text and then ended up sending texts to the wrong person, making things “awkward”.
#4 -Took a rather long route to get to my residence from the SUB(something that should have taken maybe 8 minutes, ended up taking 20)…I ended up going in a circle, for no apparent reason.
#5- I learned that I couldn’t drink(no not alcohol) and walk at the same time, and looked like an idiot TRYING to accomplish that huge feat.
#6 – Opened the door to get into my residence, looked back and saw someone behind me, closed the door and kept walking….30 seconds later, I realized that I had basically shut the door on someone…so I walked back and opened it for that person, the person clearly thought I was nuts.
#7 – Somehow managed to get soap in my mouth.
#8 – Practically ignored almost everyone that was talking to me today because I was completely zoning people out.
#9- Managed to burn food in the microwave, which is just really dumb in general.
#10 – Homework-wise, I’ve accomplished next to nothing.
#11- A strange bug just bit me. I hate bugs.

They aren’t that dumb. But I feel dumb. I just need sleep. I’ve been too busy. I need a hug. Time for comfort food.
