Even Stevens’ Louis Stevens really grew up! :’)
UBC is the place to be.
So Shia LaBeouf was in the SUB, and on Main Mall, filming outside of the Chem building! SO MANY PEOPLE OUT TO WATCH!!! All those screaming girls “omg omg omg omg omg WHERE’S SHIA?!!” .
And out of curiosity…WHERE ON FACEBOOK is this blog linked????!!! Just wanna know…out of curiosity, ‘cuz a bunch of you have found it through Facebook…. :S
Anyways…I said HI to Shia LaBeouf….got a little up close and personal with him… haha. BEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE! He smokes SO MUCH though, it’s crazy!! I am so stoked to see this movie come out!!! 😀 I can’t wait! Although, it’s slightly disappointing that the setting is in Michigan(I’m guessing…because they changed some signs to ‘Michigan University’. All the production people seem super awesome, once again. And ALSO, I saw Robert Redford as well! Daaaaaaannngg, that dude is looking quite good for 75, like ACTUALLY, you’d never think he’s that old! 😛 But back to LaBeouf boy, yesterday, when I found out he’d be on campus today, I just wanted to get a GLIMPSE of him, but I got way more than a glimpse, SO HAPPY! 😀 Haha, and NOW I am back to doing my work… such a great day! 😀
Do you know why I love UBC? FAMOUS PEOPLE COME HERE!!! 😀 So there’s currently filming in progress right now, they’ll be all over the campus, but today they were at the D block of the Chemistry building. 🙂 And guess who’s in the movie? None other than SHIA LABEOUF! ...AND Robert Redford is directing it, and also playing a role in the movie itself. Oh and the movie is called The Company You Keep….another well known ‘young’ actor would be Anna Kendrick, she played Jessica in the Twilight movies. 🙂 Stanley Tucci(LOVE HIM!) is also in this movie, he was in Burlesque, The Devil Wears Prada, Easy A, The Terminal, The Lovely Bones, and MANY MANY MANY MANY more popular movies. Then there’s Richard Jenkins, he’s in Dear John and Step Brothers, and a lot of other well known movies. The list goes on with the actors, but seriously, it’s crazy awesome that famous people will be roaming around the UBC campus! I would love a run in with ANY of those actors…..especially Shia Labeouf… ❤ …come on, I’m an eighteen year-old girl….I’ve had a ‘crush’ on him since Even Stevens (remember that show???) siiighhh. Now you’re probably thinking that I’m some crazy love struck, starstruck teenage girl, I am not. But it’s quite the experience meeting someone famous, yes? YES! I’m actually really excited to see the final product, which will come out some time in 2012, according to the production crew(yeah, I had a nice little chat with them, it was super cool, I felt super cool :$ They’re so down to earth and nice and will answer just about any question…as long as you don’t sound like some creeper trying to stake out the actors).
As much as I don’t want to move on from the topic of a movie being filmed here on campus….time to move on to the Bio midterm aspect of this post…. I’ll keep it short and sweet…. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW IT WENT! It could go both ways, and I think a lot of people would agree with me on this one…. the questions were oddly worded, as were the answers. It’s Bio, they’re purposely trying to screw you over…….but I shall pray and hope for the best that I got a super awesome mark… hehe. *crossing my fingers*
Oh on another note, did you know there’s apparently a murderer lurking about on campus..or WAS….but it’s not confirmed, but it was on the news….someone CLAIMS they thought they saw someone that could potentially be that person… but who knows. There were cops and everything searching the place yesterday! WOW! This week has definitely been ‘exciting’, hasn’t it?!
GOAL FOR THE WEEK: Have a run in with Shia Labeouf. PLEASE.
I have noticed that “Biology 112 midterm 2” has showed up in various forms as a search keyword….and I’m sorry that you ended up here…’cuz honestly, I’m of no help in that case. 😛 But don’t worry, you’re not alone if you’re freaking out, because we’re on the same boat.
******ON A SIDE NOTE******* I apologize to whoever searched for psych 101 midterm for uwaterloo….. since I don’t go to Waterloo, I really can’t help you with that one..SORRY!!!*********
I feel like I studied A LOT over the weekend, okay well, maybe I just read all the readings…but that counts for something…and the PeerWise questions, I feel like a lot of people didn’t even think their questions through thoroughly….the ‘author’s answer’ ….doesn’t seem to agree with a lot of the responses…..sooo I don’t know what’s up with that…. I haven’t even started on the practice midterm, I looked at the first question and I realized I had forgotten everything I had read about the operons…. (silly me!). So then I had to read all that stuff over again, and this time I think I kind of understand it. But tomorrow, I’m done class early(yeah, I only have one class :P), so I’m booking it on over to the commonsblock/library. It’s going to be the biggest cram sesh of my life! There are about 25-30 questions on this midterm, and up to 5 are based on the material from the first midterm……AND it’s all worth like 30% …so if you suck at multiple choice, you’re pretty much screwed, that’s all there is to it….but in order to prevent that….you have to read in between the lines. See, that’s what I dislike about Biology, it takes a while for you to actually comprehend what the question is asking, and then even longer to decipher the ‘hidden meaning’ behind each answer! Anyone else agree? Like GEEZ. Pretty much, I just can’t wait until I get this exam over and done with, and I just need a really good mark, that’s all I ask for… 🙂
And now I am off to bed, I don’t think I’ve been to bed this early in the last month or so…. but you know what they say, you need a good night’s sleep before an exam, gotta rest ye olde mind of yers. To conclude, for all of you that have this Biology 112 midterm tomorrow… GOODLUCK!!! 😀
The other day a bunch of my friends and I went to Playland….which is considered to be a pretty major attraction in Vancouver… it’s an amusement park with loads of rides and stuff! It’s a heck of a lot of fun, especially if you go with a great bunch of people! 😀 And from October 14th – 31st, they hold “Fright Nights” ….so they have freaky zombie weirdos walking around, people with chainsaws chasing you, etc. And they have a few haunted houses(which you enter in groups of 5)…which really aren’t all that bad…except at some parts. 😛 And they have smoke machines, and the whole feeling of the place is ‘eerie’ because of the Halloween theme. If you haven’t had a chance to check it, you really should! Lots of people from UBC have been going this week, we even ran into some when we went. It will for sure be a memorable experience, hands down, you’re really missing out if you don’t goooo!! 😀 Friday nights are pretty much the only nights that I can have some decent fun….thanks to midterms…..and being a Science student that actually wants to do decently in school. I can’t wait until midterms are over…..especially the Biology 112 one that is coming up on Tuesday…soooo scared for that one! >.< After this Biology midterm, I won’t have any other midterms for another 2-3 weeks, so I’m pretty excited about that! And then next weekend is Halloween weekend, and there are many happenings happening on campus, (Halloween dances, etc). I’m STOKED for that! And I have my costume almost all set to go, so I’m quite happy about that. Anyways, happy weekend, people! 😀
Hey you! Miss me? Yeah, I thought so. I can’t believe I haven’t blogged in a week……I was getting so good at blogging at the beginning of October, then I just failed at it. Oh weeelll. Good News: My last midterm for ’round one’ is done tomorrow….and the ‘bad news’ ….my second round of midterms start on Tuesday, with Biology 112….but after that my midterms aren’t until November. SO YEAH! I actually have a Psychology midterm tomorrow, and pretty much what I’m going to do is CRAM, because I can. It’s been a really long week actually… I got my Chem midterm results back yesterday….just a bit below the average…..but seriously, it wasn’t fair, I didn’t even finish the exam, so for what I did get accomplished, it’s a decent mark….but I’m definitely going to try and OWN the next midterm. (I wish.) The average for the Chemistry 121 midterm was 59% ….. that’s with like almost 2000 students writing it… that’s pretty low…. so they said that they’d make the second midterm “easier”. I’m actually scared for the Biology 112 midterm on Tuesday because I didn’t get as good of a mark as I should have on the first one, and this midterm is cumulative.
Anyways, I had a Chem lab today, the titration lab (Lab 4B for those of you that care) ….and boy did I ever do better than I had expected. I was super precise and accurate which made me happy 😀 High school chem labs scarred me….so I was really freaked out for the ones here at UBC, but actually, they’re not half as bad as I expected them to be. As long as you know what you’re doing/prepare well, you’ll be fine, and the TAs are usually always super helpful! Although I’m not going to lie, the whole write up part is a pain to do, but you get 2 weeks to do it. 🙂
PSYCH CRAMMING BEGINS…..NOW!
I am super exhausted right now…..but I’m going to write this post anyways. So yesterday evening was the Chemistry 121 midterm…… yeah, it sucked. I’m not going to lie and sugar coat things by saying it “wasn’t too bad”, ‘cuz in reality it was pretty brutal. It was pretty hard, but I feel like I could have been more prepared if I had paid more attention to the practice midterm, because they were actually KIND of similar, more similar than I had expected them to be. So that’s a lesson for the next midterm…. DO THE PRACTICE MIDTERM HARDCORE-LY. And I think I’m actually going to attend a different lecture…and just show up to mine for the quizzes…like seriously, I feel like it’s almost pointless to go to my own lecture ‘cuz I’m not learning very much…. 😦
Also, Biol 112 midterm marks have been released, so go check those out if you haven’t already! 🙂 My bio mark was actually pretty decent, so I’m happy about that. I’m so glad that my next midterm isn’t for another week, and it’s just Psych 101, which I am TOTALLY enjoying, so it’s all good! 🙂 I wish I could take Psych 102 next term, but my course load is full enough, 5 classes with 2 labs….gonna be so much fun, I CANNOT WAIT.(If you can’t sense the sarcasm in that, you should just close the window…LEAVE.)
So now I know what I’ve been doing wrong, just to fix those..and I’ll be good to go, right? RIGHT.
And now I go catch up on the sleep that I have missed out on in the past week or so.
Soooo Thanksgiving weekend was GREAT, being home was AWESOME, the weather for the most part was decent. And now I’m back at UBC….and it’s raining…..a lot. It shouldn’t come as a surprise, ‘cuz rain is what Vancouver is all about. I was surprised at how well the weather held up last week, it was pretty dry for the whole week. It irritates me to walk in the rain…. But I’m not gonna babble on about how much I hate the rain, ‘cuz I’m inside(warm and cozy), and I really didn’t walk in the rain that much today…so no need to go on a tangent about rain. ANYWAYS, my house is pretty much still dead for the most part, people are just starting to come back one by one after the long weekend. The only plus side about the rain in Vancouver is the fact that it actually prevents you from doing other things, and keeps you in your room(for the most part)….and then you actually get work done.
So as I was saying earlier, I am back at UBC….and I am content. I got all my ‘pre reading’ stuff done, haven’t touched my math homework, which I do have a lot of(but let’s not talk about that), I have new linens put on my bed(I love my mom! :D), got all my laundry done at home(the washing machines and dryers here are quite tiny….), studied for my Chem midterm(am I ready? OHH not at all!), brought back more ‘cold weather’ clothes, my room’s pretty tidy for the most part, and there’s only 4 days of school this week, had 3 days worth of home cooked meals, and no Chem lab….see why I am content… you always have to focus on the POSITIVE things. 😀
…..and now I go do math…
Ever get super carried away with sarcasm/teasing to the point where someone you actually ‘care’ about, like a good friend (perhaps of the opposite sex….which just makes it worse…hah.), gets pissed off? Yeah… just did that. MY BAD. Then you wish you had a time machine and could just go back in time and just AVOID saying anything you’d regret? UGH. That’s why they say you should just go to sleep around this time of the night/’early morning’…nothing good ever happens on the internet around this time. People are usually tired and crabby/act weird at night. It’s really difficult to grasp how people ACTUALLY feel, online. Greeeeaaaattttt. Another thing to add to my plate…….craaap.
Now I’m just being a girl….and over analyzing it.
It sure does feel great to be back home! …despite the fact I actually have school work to do…….and the fact that the Chemistry midterm is closer than I think……. ANYWAY! It is absolutely fantastic to be back home. I forgot how comfortable my own bed is……the beds in the dorms really aren’t TOO bad, but once you come back home and sleep in your own bed, you realize how much better your own bed is. I had the best sleep ever last night…….and my dreams were pretty messed up…..my dream revolved around hugs…like WHAT THE HECK….that’s a tad bit ODD, messed up…….and embarrassing. Moving on from that…..home cooked meals are GREAT! You really DO miss home cooked meals after a while…. but I can honestly say that I’m not “sick” of the dining hall food at Vanier (which is a GOOD thing!). I’m THRIVING on dining hall food, haha.
I can’t even express to you how great it feels to be back home. Just as we were driving in, my face just lit up with a smile. FEELS GOOD. All the international kids were complaining about how they have no one to hang out with, other than the other internationals….. us LOCALS are just the life of the party at UBC 😉 But I mean, who am I kidding, all the kids left on campus are just going to party hard and get wasted… it’s just how it works… what else are you to do on a long weekend, when the university is closed, and half the kids are gone? Just stating the facts. I was actually quite surprised at the number of kids that went home that are from eastern Canada and the United States, but I guess they want to take every opportunity they can to go back home.
UBC Final Exam schedule for December was just released yesterday evening, so you should go check that out(if you haven’t already). Regular classes on December 2nd and exams start on the 6th of December, and go until the 20th. I feel pretty bad for people that have exams on the 20th….sucks to be youuuuu….. I like to get out as soon as I can! It’s pretty crazy to think that we have less than 2 months left of term 1 ….. CRAZY!
So for all of you that got the chance to go home for the long weekend, HAVE AN AWESOME WEEKEND, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING! 😀 ….and same to all the kids that are on campus as well!
YEEEAAAHH!!!! Two midterms done, definitely been a hectic week! But it’s Thanksgiving weekend this weekend, so I have some time to REEEELAX. THANK GOODNESS. Midterms aren’t done yet, but it’s nice to have a little break, even though it’s just a few days until my NEXT midterm. YAY FOR CHEMISTRY…..this one is going to involve some EXTRA hardcore studying…I just don’t understand, I actually DO like Chemistry, I thoroughly enjoy the concepts of Chemistry, but once I get lost, it’s hard to get ‘found’….and in Chem 121, you really need to be able to grasp the concepts WELL before moving on, or else you’re screwed…and I’m trying my best to prevent that.
So how did my midterms go?
BIOL 112 — it wasn’t too bad. it was just 13 questions(all multiple choice, worth 13 marks total), so pretty much every mark is crucial…. if you get say, 2 wrong, you’re already down to the mid 70s (%) ….so that’s the part that sucked about Biology. And the cheat sheet, yeah you really don’t use it….there’s not much point in rewriting your notes/textbook onto that one 8.5 x 11 inch piece of paper. Pretty much you need to KNOW the concepts enough to actually APPLY them. It’s not like high school biology where you just ‘memorize’ a bunch of stuff from your textbook and then ace your tests. Every time you talk to someone about Biology, they always think it’s so easy ‘cuz ‘all you do is memorize facts’ ….. no. WRONG.
MATH 100 — yes, I am one of those random Science students that is taking ‘Engineering’ math…. I mean it’s not THAT random…. there are plenty of Science students in Math 100…. ‘cuz we chose to avoid the labs in Math 102, along with the whole Biology and Math mixing thing… So moving on to how the midterm went…. WEEELLLL. I can tell you that it was not as hard as I had expected it to be. And in saying that, I am not saying that I ACED the exam, because I know for sure that I didn’t (sadly). But in comparison to the in class quizzes we’ve had…I felt like I was actually PREPARED for the midterm….but at the same time there were some questions that I wasn’t totally sure what it was asking. But we’ll see how it went once I get my marks back.
Overall, I think that these midterms really were quite the experience, and I now have more of an idea of what is expected of me, and how to prepare for it. 🙂
